Term, whole life, and final expense
Term life covers a set period — commonly 10, 20, or 30 years — and costs the least per dollar of death benefit, which makes it the usual choice for replacing income or covering a mortgage. Whole life lasts your entire life as long as premiums are paid and builds cash value, at a meaningfully higher price for the same benefit.
Final expense is a small whole life policy, typically $5,000 to $25,000, built to cover funeral, burial, and remaining bills. Approval is usually based on a few health questions with no medical exam, which keeps it accessible to older applicants and people managing health conditions.
